More than 80% of women wear a bra that is the wrong size for them. This has an adverse effect on their posture, chest and shoulder muscles. It can also cause severe scarring especially of the skin under the breasts. Having the wrong bra can also affect how a woman looks in a particular outfit. In tonight’s ‘Healthy You’ segment KTN’s Kathryn Omwandho looks at how to identify the correct bra that fits your shape and size.

Gone are the days when we would sit down as a family and take our time and develop healthy eating habits. Nowadays, most families don’t even sit down and have a meal. Most single individuals eat out more than they eat in. Another big problem with trying to eat healthy is the price of healthy foods. Most people may want to eat healthy, but they can’t afford the price of most healthy foods at the local grocery store. It is hard to convince someone that it is better to spend an extra dollar for a healthy loaf instead of paying half that amount for a regular loaf of bread.

Another problem with healthy eating habits is knowing what are the right healthy foods to eat. It is so easy to find unhealthy foods and let fact it most of us don’t want to take the time required to fix healthy meals. Unless you plan to grow your own healthy foods and prepare your own healthy foods, it can be hard to develop healthy eating habits.

It usually takes something to happen to our health to get us to change the way we eat. When you are in your 20s and 30s you don’t think about the ramifications of the foods you eat. You live to eat fast foods and meals that are prepared in an instant. But when we get older and our health starts to fad, then we decide it time to make some changes to the way we eat.

I think it is human nature to only do the things that we need to do when they are required to be done. But everything we do comes at a price. What we eat is no exception. If you continue to put bad things into your body, at some point in time you will pay a price. Garbage in will produce garbage out. Our bodies can only handle getting junk for so long, and then one day it will tell us that it is feed up.

So instead of waiting for your body to crash and burn, why not start giving your body what it needs to function properly now. The first step in that process is to start eating more healthy foods.

Some of the things you can eat right now to get your body healthy are vegetables, dairy products, and high-protein dishes and so on. You need a certain amount of fat, carbs, etc, which helps to keep you healthy. You can get a list from your family doctor or you can search the internet to get information on the basic four food groups. If you cannot afford to eat right then maybe you should not eat as much. In addition, do some excising; excising is always good for you. Exercise will increase your health, even if you cannot afford the four basic groups of nutritious foods. In addition, do some research and find ways to get healthy foods at a discount from stores in your area.

You cannot just jump in and change your bad eating habits overnight. You have to take time to start and to learn. For some of us that have been eating wrong all of our life, this would be hard to do overnight. Then again, others may not have any problems with it. You want to consider your position and move forward.

One of the first things you will notice when you start eating healthy foods is that you feel better and you have more energy. Eating right has a lot to do with how we feel. If we lack nutrients, it can make one feel depressed, ill, and a bear to be around. Since, we get vitamins from our foods; you may want to include natural vitamins in your daily schedule also.

Developing healthy eating habits is not hard, but it does take time and discipline to accomplish. Don’t wait until your body fall apart before you change the way you eat. If you change the way you eat starting today, you will feel better tomorrow.

If you have very little money to spend on healthy foods because of the price, then you will find this advice to be just what you need for eating healthy with little money.

Being a healthy eater requires you to become both educated and smart about what healthy eating actually is. Being food smart isn’t about learning to calculate grams or fat, or is it about studying labels and counting calories.

Eating healthy requires quite a bit of leeway. You might eat too much or not enough, consume foods that are sometimes more or less nutritious. However, you should always fuel your body and your brain regularly with enough food to keep both your mind and body strong and alert.

Eating healthy is something we all would like to do, although it can be hard. In order to eat healthy, you must first make the right food choices. Eating healthy is all about what you eat, which makes the choices very crucial to your results.

Stop eating Processed junk food and do your grocery shopping on your own, because your children and sometimes your spouse are usually the ones requesting Processed junk food. Shopping alone will ensure that you only buy the foods that you need.

Drink pure Filtered Water and unsweating herb tea instead of coffee, milk, juice and soft drinks. If you need milk or milk products on a daily basis for your Children, then buy organic milk or milk products with 2% or less fat, low sugar and salt.

Buy fruits in quantity, When they are in season, buy fruits in quantity and freeze any extras. You can buy several pounds this way, and freeze extras to have them when the fruit goes out of season. Wash the fruit well, remove any spoiled pieces, dry thoroughly, then freeze in plastic zipper bags.Lean Meats and beans are a good sources for protein, but lean meat is more expensive than meats with a lot of fat, so limit your meats to once or twice a month. All beans are a healthier chose for protein then meats, as they give you protein at a great price. You should use beans as a substitute for meat on a frequent occasion. There are several varieties, so you can prepare them in a crock pot, when you return home they are ready to consume.

The USDA recommends eating beans at least 4 times per week. If you experience gas after eating beans you should try washing them, covering them with water and put half a raw potato into the pot of beans, bringing the water to a boil, then draining it off and remove the cooked potato, leaving the pot with just beans.

If you live in a coastal area or an area where fish are around, make that an integral part of your diet. You can catch them from the lakes or rivers, saving money in the process.

Peanut butter is great for those with low income, as it’s popular with almost everyone. You can use it for sandwiches instead of eating hot dogs. Read the label on the jar as sum Peanut butter jars need to be refrigerated and sum does not, although bigger jars can last you for weeks or months.

You should buy foods that have a high content of water. Watermelon, salads, and even sugar free gelatin are all great examples.

Healthy eating is all about balanced and moderate eating, consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day. Healthy eaters eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or food group.

You should always remember that restricting food in any way is always a bad thing. Healthy eating is a way of life, something that you can do to enhance your body or your lifestyle. If you’ve thought about making your life better, healthy eating is just the place to start. You’ll make life easier for yourself, those around you, and even your family.

By picking your foods wisely and watching what you eat, you’ll help control your lifestyle. Exercise is great as well, as it goes along perfect with a healthy eating lifestyle. No matter what your age may be, eating healthy will help you keep your active lifestyle for years and years – even help you and your health in the long run as well.

Eating healthy is always something you can’t go wrong with. You can eat healthy for just a few bucks, which makes it perfect for those with low income. Now, you don’t need a lot of money to have the lifestyle and health you’ve always wanted.

Doesn’t it seem that healthy food is more expensive? Our family has made a huge decision over the last 6 months to focus on healthy eating and lifestyle choices, and we’ve learned a lot along the way. With 4 small kids (ages 2 to 9), my husband and I have to stay healthy and fit just to keep up with it all! To stretch our dollars while eating healthy, I always keep the following tips in mind…

    1. Cook at Home
We all know that eating out is not only more expensive, but also much less healthy. The portions are typically larger than necessary and you truly don’t know what’s in your dinner. Hitting that drive-thru might seem fast and easy, but we pay for it both in cost and health.

    2. Plan Your Meals in Advance
One way to avoid the temptation of last-minute drive-thrus and processed, pre-prepared meals in our constantly busy schedules is to create a weekly menu plan. Sticking with simple, healthy meals along with cooking ahead and freezing meals works wonders in this area.

    3. Eat Less Meat
Many times, the most expensive item on your grocery list is… (yep, you guessed it!)… meat. Although fresh meat is part of a healthy diet, don’t forget about other healthy sources of protein such as beans, eggs, fish, and even canned tuna or chicken, which is usually less expensive and just as nutritious. Toss these on a salad or whole-grain pasta dish – and there’s your healthy dinner!

    4. Buy Locally
Farmer’s Markets are an excellent resource for discounts on fresh fruits, and vegetables. Many communities also have small businesses that focus on gathering fresh produce from local, organic farmers each week.

    5. Save on Canned & Frozen Vegetables and Focus on Healthy Sale Items
In planning your grocery trip, focus on the healthy sale items each week. When canned or frozen vegetables go on sale, stock up… and keep in mind that just because that sugary snack is on sale, it doesn’t mean that you need to buy it!

    6. Focus on Whole Grains
Stock up on whole grains when they go on sale. Cereals pasta, and oatmeal have a long shelf-life, and you can get excellent deals on these products when combining Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sales and coupons!

    7. Avoid Processed Foods
Processed and pre-packaged foods are often a source of unidentifiable and unhealthy ingredients. If you focus on whole foods, you’ll avoid these unknowns all together.

    8. Keep a Stocked, Healthy Pantry
We try to keep our pantry stocked with healthy choices, such as whole-grain pasta, canned vegetables, whole-grain crackers, nuts, canned healthy meats and more. Use those 6-week sales cycles and stock up at that rock-bottom price on those healthy choices! Plus, knowing that I can throw together a quick meal for my family that is both healthy and frugal gives me a small sense of peace in our hectic, busy 4-kids-in-lots-of-activities everyday lifestyle!

At the onset, we’d like to emphasize that food should not be strictly looked at from a budgetary point of view. If you are amongst those who use coupons cut from magazines and local newspapers to subsidize your food costs please don’t – at least not unless the item for which you plan to use the coupon coincides with an item on the new diet menu. Healthy eating diets will always ask you to plan your meals. Such planning needs to be done from a nutrition and health point of view, not on the basis of coupons that might be available.

Nutrition and health point of view healthy eating ideas:

Healthy eating idea: 1. Shop on your own or with your spouse

Notice what happens when you take kids or teenagers with you for shopping? They tend to pick up all kinds of unhealthy stuff. It’s best if you create a shopping list based on your nutrition requirement. Leave the kids at home. You might want to pick up one or two items the kids love but limit the quantity. For example, instead of buying a dozen bags of chips buy just three for the week and slowly reduce that to one per week and buy items which is healthy eating for kids. Your shopping list should include foods like Chicken, turkey, fish, peanut butter, salad leaves, whole grain bread, lots of fruits and vegetables, low fat milk and cheese.

Healthy eating idea: 2. Stock your refrigerator with healthy snack food

Whenever we are hungry, the first thing we do is rummage in the fridge. If we can’t find anything there we look for cookies or chips or whatever else we can lay our hands on. So our healthy eating tips # 2 is depending on the requirement make a couple of turkey or chicken or tuna sandwiches and stores them in the fridge. Similarly you can add some saffron or strawberry to milk, healthy salad dressing and store a jar of it in the fridge. Inform your family members about the sandwiches and milk shake.

Healthy eating idea and healthy diet plan: 3. Grill or roast don’t deep fry

De-skin all your meat and remove any visible fat before cooking. Rediscover the joys of barbeque. If you haven’t already done it yet switch over to quality non-stick frying pan. A major advantage of non-stick pans is that food requires less oil for sautéing or seasoning. Also keep an oil spray bottle handy. When you need to make an omelet, just lightly spray the non-stick pan with oil.

Healthy eating idea and food portion sizes: 4. Reduce red meats and increase beans and legumes

You can vary your source of protein by incorporating beans and legumes in your healthy eating plan, i.e. all your protein need not come from meat products. Most beans can be soaked in water overnight so they sprout the next morning. Sprouted beans are even more nutritious.

Healthy eating idea: 5. Eat fish and healthy heart recipes regularly

Americans do not eat fish as much as red meats. Gram for gram, fish is leaner and healthier than any meat. Additionally, fish also contains Omega-3 fats which are good for your heart.

Healthy eating idea and healthy menu planner: 6. Select your fruit for their water content

Fruits such as oranges, melons, Kiwi, bananas, berries, grapes, apples etc. are high in fiber, water and nutrients. Fresh fruits pack more nutrients per calorie than any other food. Also, because of their high water content, you enjoy the feeling of being ‘full’ after eating a relatively small quantity of fruit. This in turn helps you avoid snacking on junk foods.

Healthy eating idea: 7. Switch to portion control plates and scoopers

Notice how family members heap food on to their plates? Rather than eating just one favorite type of food, they should be encouraged to have one or two servings of each. You can achieve this by using quality portion control plates and scoopers. Quality portion control plates have food demarcations on them making it easier to not only limit the amount of food we consume, but also to eat the correct quantities from each food group i.e. Fruits and vegetables, milk, meats, etc.

The best way to living a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy and forming healthy eating habits for the long run, has always come from within, within the home that is. We cannot look to others, books, magazines and publications for making us a healthy family or giving us the healthy lifestyle we would want to live. Sure these publications could give us the inspiration and motivation to take that step ourselves and to live a healthy lifestyle of choice. Everything still ends up with the home and family and we need to take that extra step in being courageous consumers when it comes to our choice of food.
One of those choices would be whether we want to continue eating obese foods, such as fast food, refined foods, processed foods or bleached foods. We need to take the responsibility and get back to what Mother Nature provided us, with food in its natural form, without any instructions to refine or process these foods. Obesity is directly linked to bad food choices in the form of highly refined carbohydrates and sugars which really is only a form of poison to our bodies. Gone are the days when considering those foods nutritious or beneficial to our families.
A solution each of us have available is to return to the bygone years of food production, or processing at home, sure it is less convenient, but the benefits are overwhelming an in a sense, you don’t have to watch what you eat really if you are consuming natural, high fibrous and unprocessed food. These foods will not only provide a healthy lifestyle, but will enable you to take care of a healthy family through healthy cooking and eating.
Ways to produce healthy food for your family would be to look at obtaining a grain mill and natural whole wheat grains which you can mill in your own time and for purposes you need such as baking and providing daily natural and fresh bread to your family. Another would be to start a victory garden, or vegetable garden in your back yard or in smaller pots in order to provide your own vegetables and salad items for the table. These foods are so healthy and nutritious for your family that you would reap the benefits almost immediately without worries of consuming unnatural processed and refined foods from the store.
Make healthy cooking and eating a priority for your family and the benefits will be seen before long. Benefits would include healthy digestion, disease fighting nutrition, obesity suppression etc. which will lead to a healthy family and lifestyle you will be grateful for. Not to mention the fun and satisfaction in producing your own food, being independent wholly from buying all your food from the supermarket. You can start your journey on the road of independence and take charge of your healthy eating habits, cooking and eating to promote your healthy family
A last word on healthy eating habits is this: there are many ways to promote the healthy family lifestyle you want and deserve, look at fresh produce you can grow in your own yard, storing whole grain which will last years, and when milled will give you the best and freshest whole wheat flour you can use for all your healthy cooking requirements. Canning vegetables and sauces is very easy too and is a skill you can learn in a very short time. In a day and age where the economic future is uncertain, being able to produce and store your own healthy food is vital to your health and lifestyle you would like to preserve
